Summer Bucket List

Right now, I’m pretty excited because today is the THIRD day in a row that I’ve been able to wear warm weather clothes. That’s quite the accomplishment when you live in the midwest! I feel like every time it gets decently warm outside, it snows the next day or drops to 40 degrees. Why do you play with me like that Kansas?!

Anyway, now that it’s consistently warm outside {so far}, I thought it’d be fun to compile a summer bucket list! Every year I have this little mental list of things I want to do over the summer, but I never write it down. That’s really dangerous for me because if I don’t write it down, I usually forget it within 37 seconds, give or take. Hubs and I even have a joke about me being Dory from Finding Nemo. Since I actually want to accomplish all these things on my list this year, I figured it’d be smart to write {or type} it all out. Plus I heart the satisfaction of physically crossing things off a list. Anyone else have that weird affinity?

Check back periodically for more posts about things I accomplish from my list. I probably won’t post about everything I do on the list {that’d be a lot of posts!}, but I’ll try to document the most memorable things. I’m thinking I’ll count “summer” as May 1st to August 31st, but I might do a couple things earlier or later. If you have a summer bucket list, I’d HEART to read about it in the comments! Sometimes people come up with fun things that I didn’t think of. Hope you get some ideas from my list as well!

A Bridal Shower

For those of you who don’t know me, I HEART planning things, especially girly things, and especially girly things that are wedding-related. So imagine my joy when I got to throw my very first bridal shower yesterday! I’ve been looking forward to this for months {that’s no exaggeration}. Not only did I get to plan the shower and make all these cute little decorations, but the shower was for one of my closest friends, which made it all the more special. She’s such a wonderful friend, so I wanted to pull out all the stops for her. I lived on Pinterest for about a month finding ideas that I thought she’d like! Needless to say, yesterday morning was crazy with cooking the food, decorating, and last-minute cleaning. And, of course, I also had to get myself ready {which I did in about 10 minutes…that’s a new record!}. The shower went great though! It was everything I {and more importantly, the bride} hoped it’d be and then some. I was so honored to get to plan this for her and bring this kind of joy to her and her fiancé…plus she threw me a fabulous shower when I was engaged, so this was my opportunity to return the favor! I was so pleased with how everything turned out that I thought I’d share some pictures from yesterday. Now I just have to hang tight until June, which is when my friend’s big day is! I couldn’t be happier for her and I can’t WAIT to celebrate her marriage! June will be here before we know it! {You’ll have to pardon the quality of some of the images…they were taken VERY quickly on my phone right before the shower started.}

{A little sneak peak of the invites I designed for the shower. I heart how they turned out!}

{A cute little banner I made with the bride’s name, plus Bride & Groom signs above their chairs}

{Some of the food that was there…we made A LOT of food! The full spread included ham & cheese pinwheels, deviled eggs, antipasto skewers, a veggie tray, toasted ravioli, and melted chocolate with all kinds of things to dip in it}

{I even went all out and made cute little cards for all the food}

{A little nod to the bride’s love for owls}

{There were also cake pops! Who doesn’t love cake pops? For the record, I didn’t make these…another friend of the bride did. How cute are they though?!}

{We had two kinds of punch, one in each of her wedding colors, plus water}

{Mason jars that I decorated for drinks…I especially heart how these turned out!}

{One more of the jars, just because they were one of my favorite things!}

Six Months

Aside from today being awesome because it’s Friday, today is also awesome because……..drumroll………it’s my six-month wedding anniversary! Has it really already been six months? Wow! It’s a strange feeling to be celebrating six months again. Hubs and I have been together just shy of six years, so it’s been a loooooooong time since we celebrated our six-month dating anniversary. {Fun Fact: Hubs got me a guinea pig for our six month dating anniversary…his name was Charles.} So much has already happened in our lives and with our relationship. It feels like we’ve already grown so much! If this is how it feels after six months, I can only imagine how I’ll feel on our one-year anniversary, or five-year, or 25-year.

Needless to say, I feel blessed every day to have my hubby in my life. He’s an incredible man and he takes such good care of me. I thank God every day for him, because I don’t think I could have picked such a great guy on my own! Anywho, in honor of our anniversary, I’ve been reminiscing over some of our wedding pictures. Our photogs {Mike & Julie of J. Smith Innovations – they rock!} did such a good job at capturing all the important moments, as well as those little moments that might have otherwise been missed. Those are my absolute favorite moments – the little ones tucked between all the hustle and bustle.

Now that a decent chunk of time has passed, I thought it’d be fun to share some of my favorite moments from our wedding {accompanied by some of said pictures}. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed reflecting on them.

1. The whole getting-ready process

Weddings take a lot of prep work, and my girls and I were at the salon at 10:00 in the morning, despite the wedding not starting until 7:00 that evening. I literally got to spend a whole day with some of my closest friends while we got our hair and makeup done. What girl wouldn’t love that? There was much talking, laughing, and general goofing off. We had snacks and everything. Having my wedding day start out that way was such a good way to keep me calm.

2. Goofing off with my girls

On a similar note, I couldn’t have had better bridesmaids. They are all such beautiful girls inside and out and I wouldn’t have wanted to surround myself with any other group. We had many funny, dorky, and heart-warming moments that day, but the image below is one of my favorites…it just captures “us”!

3. Our First Look

The First Look is a really big moment. You’ve done all this primping and fancying up and then all of a sudden it’s time to unveil {no pun intended} the masterpiece. It felt so good to see hubs and just have a private, candid moment with him. It really dispelled a lot of nerves, and it didn’t hurt that hubs looked ridiculously handsome! What made this moment even more special was that we had our First Look in the same spot we met…in the Student Center at our church. It was an incredibly special moment.

4. Having my family together

There’s one thing you must know: family is WAY important to me, and I heart my family…A LOT. My parents are divorced, so I’ve kind of always had two families. It’s very rare that their paths cross, but on our wedding day, everyone was there. Having that many members from both sides of my family was one of the most special moments of the whole day. I will always cherish that.

5. The “OMG we just got married” moment

I love this next picture. It was taken right after we walked out of the chapel following the ceremony. Our bridal party and family members were close behind, but for a split second, it was just hubs and me. We looked at each other and laughed, almost like, Did we really just do that?

6. The father/daughter dance

Alright, you got me. I’m a total daddy’s girl. It’s not very often that you get to dance with your dad, especially as you get older. It was so special to me to be able share that one dance with him, the first man I ever loved…just me and my dad, nobody else.

I have a confession to make. I SERIOUSLY heart dancing. I’m really not that good at it…not at all. But that’s never stopped me from getting my boogie on! Sometimes I hold back a tiny bit when I dance because I don’t want to make too much of a fool of myself, but on my wedding day, I danced my heart out! I was the bride, so I figured it’d be ok if I made a total fool of myself. What’s the fun of life if you can’t laugh at yourself sometimes?

8. Being married

Cliche as it is, the best part of my wedding day was the fact that I GOT MARRIED! There’s a lot that goes on at a wedding and I think a lot of people who get married these days miss the point of a wedding. As stressful as the planning was and as crazy as the actual wedding day was, at the end of it when hubs and I were sitting in the car on the way to the hotel, we were married, and that couldn’t have made me any happier!

Back in the Blogosphere

Alright, I have a confession to make…I’ve blogged before. Several times actually. I started a blog once when I was a freshman in college {that one was very short-lived}. Then I started one up halfway through my junior year of college, and it eventually became my wedding blog {I blogged to keep everyone updated on the wedding plans}. But, you know, weddings come and go, and so did my blog. I know, I know…I should have kept it going after that. Being a newlywed takes up some time though. Between the honeymoon and writing thank yous and getting settled in a new job, it just takes up a lot of time.

I guess that’s what the real issue is with my blogs up until this point. I’ve never had enough time. Or at least I never thought I did. I see now that if I had made it more of a priority, I would, in fact, have time for it. {That seems to be true of many things in life, no?} That brings us up to this moment as I type this post. Whenever I don’t blog, I miss it. I read other blogs all the time and think,”Gee, I should get back into blogging.” And then I never do. I’m trying harder to work on turning thoughts like that into action.

So here I am, springing into action! Right now, this blog is more for me than anything. I’m realizing more and more that writing and expressing my creativity in this way is important to me and I’m trying to fill that void. I certainly have goals for this blog, but for now, I’m just keeping it simple…lovin’ life and stayin’ simple!
